You will be the senior engineer on two or three client products at a time, working directly with founders rather than through a project manager. That means you make architectural calls, you talk to the people who will use what you build, and you are accountable for what happens after it ships. We are small enough that there is nowhere to hide and no ceiling in the way.
What you’ll do
- Design and build full-stack features across React/Next.js front ends and Node or Python services
- Own data modelling and migrations on Postgres, including the ugly backfills
- Take architectural decisions and write them down so the next person understands why
- Review pull requests with enough care that the author learns something
- Talk directly to client stakeholders about trade-offs, cost and timelines
- Carry a light on-call rotation for the products you build
What we’re looking for
- 5+ years building and shipping production web applications
- Deep TypeScript, plus React or Next.js in a real codebase you maintained
- Server-side experience in Node.js or Python, with an API you designed yourself
- Comfortable with relational data modelling — indexes, transactions, N+1 queries
- You have operated something in production: deploys, logs, incidents, rollbacks
- Clear written English — most of our collaboration is asynchronous
Nice to have
- Experience in an agency or consultancy, juggling more than one client
- Infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CDK) and CI/CD pipeline ownership
- Having introduced testing or observability to a team that had neither
- Open-source contributions we can read
