This is a product design role, not a visual one. You will do discovery, define flows, build and maintain the design system, and sit with engineers while it is implemented. We measure design work by whether the thing shipped and whether it worked, so you will see your decisions meet reality.
What you’ll do
- Run discovery — interviews, competitive teardowns, journey mapping — and turn it into a point of view
- Design end-to-end flows, from the empty state to the error state
- Build and maintain component libraries in Figma that map to what engineering actually uses
- Prototype interactions well enough to test them before they are built
- Pair with engineers during implementation and review the result honestly
- Present and defend your reasoning directly to clients
What we’re looking for
- 3+ years designing digital products, with a portfolio showing shipped work
- Fluent in Figma — components, variants, auto-layout, variables
- You can explain a design decision without referring to how it looks
- Experience running usability sessions and changing your mind because of them
- Working knowledge of WCAG — contrast, focus order, target sizes
- Comfortable being the only designer in the room
Nice to have
- Front-end literacy — enough HTML/CSS to know what is expensive to build
- Motion and micro-interaction design
- Experience designing for regulated industries such as fintech or health
- You have built a design system from nothing and kept it alive
